Srinagar, June 27:
President of India, DroupadiMurmu, on Thursday, commended the unprecedented voter turnout in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a significant milestone in the region’s electoral history.
Addressing a joint session of both Houses of Parliament, President Murmu emphasized that the full application of the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir, following the abrogation of Article 370, has played a crucial role in this democratic success.
She said that a very encouraging aspect of this election emerged from Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmir Valley shattered all voter turnout records of many decades.
Highlighting the remarkable voter engagement, President Murmu noted, “the Kashmir Valley shattered all voter turnout records of many decades. For the last four decades, we saw low voter turnout amid shutdowns and strikes in Kashmir. Enemies of India have continuously spread false propaganda on global platforms, presenting it as the opinion of Jammu and Kashmir. However, this time, the Kashmir Valley has given a befitting reply to all such elements, both within the country and outside.”
Pertinent to mention here, the three constituencies in the Kashmir Valley — Srinagar (38.49 percent), Baramulla (59.1 percent), and Anantnag-Rajouri (53 percent) — recorded the highest voter turnout “in many decades” during the recent LokSabha elections.
These figures represent the highest voter turnout in many decades, signaling a robust democratic engagement in the region.
