Srinagar, Jan 24: Principal Secretary of Culture, Suresh Kumar Gupta, today said that the Union Territory’s tableau at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi will showcase the ongoing developments in Jammu and Kashmir.
Gupta emphasized the significant progress witnessed over the past four years in areas such as infrastructure, digital transformation, agriculture, urban development, rural life, and public aesthetics.
“UT have made multiple efforts in the areas of infrastructure development and digital transformation. These efforts are aimed at strengthening agriculture, urban infrastructure, rural life, and public aesthetics, as well as improving the ease of living and providing a clean and sustainable environment for citizens under the “Viksit Bharat” campaign,” he said.
He highlighted the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir, particularly its renowned papier-mâché artistry and saffron farming tradition. The tableau features scenes depicting the meticulous process of creating papier-mâché masterpieces and showcases Kashmiri women working in saffron fields. The saffron exports, which have received a Geographical Indication (GI) Tag, are also exhibited.
“In one captivating scene, a skilled lady is depicted gracefully engaged in the meticulous process of creating papier-mâché masterpieces. Kashmir, known as the “Saffron Bowl of India,” boasts a rich tradition of saffron farming,” he said.
The restoration of Lal Chowk in Srinagar is showcased in the tableau, preserving its historic charm while integrating modern amenities. A large model of the Clock Tower, a popular tourist spot, is presented to reflect the vibrant and rejuvenated urban center.
Regarding Jammu region, Gupta said that Jambu Zoo is a first full-fledged Zoo that offers an immersive experience with diverse animal species, set against lush natural landscapes.
The tableau represents the Jambu Zoo, the first full-fledged zoo offering an immersive experience with diverse animal species. The tableau depicts animals like lions, tigers, and peacocks. The name “Jambu” is explained to derive from Raja Jambu Lochan, the founder of Jammu city, inspired by a legendary incident of a tiger and a goat drinking water together.
The tableau aims to highlight the successful culmination of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra, a massive undertaking with the active participation of approximately 50 lakh people. The yatra played a crucial role in implementing 17 crucial schemes in both rural and urban areas, bringing about positive change.
The design and presentation of the tableau were led by Additional Secretary PD&MD, Tasir Balwan, and Joint Director PD&MD, Imtiyaz Ahmad.
Imtiyaz Ahmad, the mastermind behind the design, mentioned that the tableau consists of three vehicles and involves the artistic talents of 50 individuals. Additionally, a soulful song capturing the spirit of developmental transformation has been composed by the Cultural Department of J&K.
To enhance the visual impact, a specially curated developmental video has been prepared by the Information and IT department, integrated into the tableau presentation. This comprehensive approach, including a song, artistic representation, and a developmental video, aims to make the tableau a powerful portrayal of Jammu and Kashmir’s journey towards growth and progress.
A total of 25 tableaux, including 16 from various states and union territories, along with 9 from central government departments, will be showcased at the Republic Day parade, where President Emmanuel Macron of France is the chief guest.
