Srinagar, Sep 15: Jammu & Kashmir National Conference on Monday condemned the alleged police lathi-charge on students including girls who were questioning Desh Bhagat University administration’s latest directive on their relocation to non-accredited colleges.
In a statement, JKNC State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar said, “The physical assault on Kashmiri students is a grim reminder of how they continue to face the brunt of targeted assaults even by uniformed men. The university administration is duty-bound to address the concerns of their students. They should not have allowed the Punjab police to intervene in this administrative issue who thrashed the innocent students. They need to act and stop such incidents from taking place. Also, the university administration is duty bound to address the concerns raised by students.”
“Girl students were thrashed brutally for no fault of theirs. This is unacceptable and should be condemned by all,” the spokesperson said, demanding a thorough and fast-track investigation by the Punjab government.
Congress Working Committee (CWC) Member Ghulam Ahmad Mir asserted that the institutions are meant to shape students’ careers irrespective of their colour, region or religion while expressing grave concern over the assault on students in Desh Bhagat University in Punjab over some admission transfer issue of Kashmiri nursing students.
CWC Member said that universities should not be used to intimidate students on colour, region or religion basis, these are meant to build students’ careers and impart the best education. He strongly condemned the assault and arrest of students and urged the Punjab government to take strict action against the Management of Desh Baghat University for intimidating students.
“The university’s move to transfer admission of students to a college that does not have authorization from the Indian Nursing Council and Punjab Nursing Registration Council as reported sans logic, if it was the case, then the college authorities are deliberately ruining the academic career of students even after spending hard earned money of their parents for completing their studies outside J&K,” Mir said.
“I urge the Punjab government to investigate the matter and not allow Desh Bhagat University and other institutions to ruin the career of our students and ensure that the university runs according to the set guidelines and not as per the wish of the management,” the Congress leader added.
Chairman J&K Peoples Democratic Front (JKPDF) and former minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen while condemning the alleged police lathi-charge on Kashmiri female students at Desh Bhagat University Punjab has appealed to the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to “help the Kashmiri nursing students who have been protesting for the past two months against the university administration’s “arbitrary” decision to transfer their admissions to a Sardar Lal Singh College that lacks approval from the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and PNRC (Punjab Nursing Registration Council)”.
“The Desh Bhagat University has allegedly committed fraud with Kashmiri students in making admissions in nursing courses. It was most unfortunate that instead of saving their academic future, the female Kashmiri students have been cane charged and kept hostage inside the university complex to silence their voice,” he said.
Yaseen has also urged the Indian Nursing Council to investigate into the DBU admission scandal.
