Srinagar, Aug 02: As part of an extensive modernization plan, the Jammu and Kashmir Police will acquire over 64,000 advanced investigation kits for police stations across the Union Territory. This initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of law enforcement, officials said.
A senior police officer at J&K Police Headquarters told *Rising Kashmir* that under the modernization plan, “64530 Investigation Kits for Police Stations across the union territory” have been initiated. “These kits are designed to equip police stations with the necessary tools and resources to conduct thorough and accurate investigations,” he added.
The modernization plan includes upgrading the technological and logistical infrastructure of police stations. Each investigation kit is expected to include a range of advanced tools and equipment, essential for forensic analysis and evidence collection. “This will empower officers to conduct investigations more efficiently and with greater precision,” the officer said. The initiative aims to improve the skill set of police personnel, ensuring they are adept at using the latest technologies and methodologies in criminal investigations.
Tenders for these kits have been issued under 2024/B/5227875, with the last date for bidding on August 21, 2024.
In addition to the investigation kits, the J&K Police are also acquiring two specialized vehicles for the Bomb Disposal Squad. These vehicles are designed to enhance the squad’s capabilities in handling explosive devices safely and efficiently. The police officer stated, “They are equipped with advanced technology and safety features, enabling the bomb squad to respond more effectively to bomb threats and other hazardous situations.”

The aim is to increase operational safety for bomb squad personnel and enhance their ability to neutralize explosive threats with minimal risk to public safety.
In October 2022, the J&K government constituted a six-member Union Territory level Empowered Committee, headed by the Financial Commissioner (ACS) Home, to deliberate upon and approve the modernization plan for submission to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
