Jammu, Dec 24: Former J&K chief minister and NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday released an academic book titled “Basic Elements in Statistics” authored by Zonal Secretary JKNC, Dr Vikas Sharma and Dr Amit Sharma during a function organized at Press Club here.
Dr Abdullah was the chief guest whereas former minister and NC Additional General Secretary Ajay Sadhotra presided over the occasion. NC Provisional President, Rattan Lal Gupta; and Vice-Chancellor, ICFAI University Himachal Pradesh, Prof Keshav Sharma were the guests of honor. NC Provincial Joint Secretary,  Ankush Abrol was the special guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Abdullah lauded Dr Vikas Sharma for using his expertise in Statistics and authoring such a useful book for the students. He emphasized upon him to write a comprehensive research paper on the economic situation of Jammu and Kashmir so as to lay a roadmap for its developmental needs which are essential from a futuristic point of view.
He said, “J&K is an economically backward state where unemployment is sky-rocketing and we have to urgently look into this. Our neighbouring states are growing rapidly. We also need big industries here but they should be environment friendly. Only that way we can address the issue of unemployment and economic development.”
Ajay Sadhotra also congratulated Dr Vikas Sharma for bringing out a scholarly publication for the benefit of scholars and students. He lauded the leadership and organizational skills of a young NC leader who spearheaded many student agitations during his college and university days.
He asked Dr Sharma to author a paper on the economic situation of J&K and suggest measures to uplift the same using his expertise in the subject.
Prof Keshav Sharma also spoke on the occasion and shared the moments of his association with Dr Vikas Sharma. He said the book authored by a young NC leader is one-of-its-kind and will immensely help the scholars and students of Statistics in understanding the basic concepts.
