Srinagar, June 18: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said J&K was called the hotspot of terrorism but now it has become a hotspot of tourism and prosperity.
LG Sinha said “under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the development has accelerated in Union Territory. He has changed the perspective of the world towards Jammu Kashmir”.
Addressing the 12th Residential Meet of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) members in public service at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, the Lieutenant Governor said that earlier J&K was called the hotspot of terrorism but today it is a hotspot of tourism and progress. “Last year, a record 1.88 crore tourists visited Union Territory and I am confident it will cross 2.25 crore this year,” the LG said.
LG Sinha stated that the speed of our work has increased tenfold since the beginning of 2019. “New aspirations have been born in the society, new resolutions have arisen among youth, and in Amrit Kaal, J&K is on par with developed states on many parameters of development,” he said.
The LG acknowledged the invaluable contribution of ICAI members to the nation’s growth. “The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has indeed come a long way since its inception in 1949, and has made immense contributions in policies, governance, and business,” he said.
“Accountancy is not just about balance sheets; it is also about laying a solid foundation for the country’s socioeconomic development,” LG Sinha explained.
“ICAI has emerged as a strong partner in nation building, it has continuously supported various government institutions, regulatory bodies in the implementation of important policies related to inclusive development so that India can move faster and its economy becomes stronger,” he said.
According to LG Sinha, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as the world’s fifth largest economic power, and new thinking has emerged in both the private and public sectors.
“This has given people new vigour and confidence to move the socioeconomic sectors forward.” “The world’s largest organisations and companies have expressed confidence in India’s potential as a result of sound economic policies,” he said.
LG Sinha further said that he is happy that the ICAI is actively participating in this journey and setting the highest global standards.
“Our determination to build Atma-Nirbhar Bharat is gaining momentum. The reforms to bring the rural economy up to speed with that of the cities have recognised the power and potential of the villages,” he added.
Lt Governor also emphasised the role of Chartered Accountants in social transformation and the welfare of the bottom of the development ladder.
“Today, the role of CAs is not limited to maintaining the credibility of the financial market, discipline, and investor and shareholder confidence, but they also ensure that every penny of the government exchequer reaches the needy people,” he said.
“In J&K, through BEAMS Empowerment, we have brought a huge change in the life of the common man. We have ensured every single penny spent on projects is accounted for, details are put in public domain for the public to see and projects execution meets the deadline,” he said.
Reiterating the commitment to meet the needs of the ICAI, the LG Sinha said the land for centre of excellence has been identified and will be allotted soon.
On the occasion, CA. Aniket Sunil Talati, President ICAI expressed gratitude to the Lt Governor led UT administration for addressing their demand of the allotment of land for ICAI’s centre of excellence in Jammu Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Vice President, ICAI; CA. (Dr) Raj Kumar Adukia , Chairman, CMEPS; CA. Purushottamlal Khandelwal, Vice Chairman, CMEPS; CA. (Dr) Jai Kumar, Secretary, ICAI; CA. (Dr) Debashis Mitra, Immediate Past President , ICAI; members of ICAI in public service from across the country were present.
