J&K Ice Team Excels at Chinar Winter Games 2025 in Gulmarg

Gulmarg, March 13: The Chinar Winter Games 2025, organised by the Indian Army,  concluded its Phase I, featuring thrilling ice-skating and curling events on March 11 and 12 at the Ice-Skating Rink, Gulmarg.

In the ice-skating events, the J&K Ice Team participated in speed skating and figure skating, with both boys and girls showcasing their talent. The contingent, consisting of 50 players, was led by M. Ashraf Dijoo, Senior National Coach and General Secretary of the Ice-Skating Association of J&K.

The Indian Army provided food, accommodation, transport, and equipment facilities, ensuring a seamless experience for all participants. Special arrangements for Iftar and Sehri were also made, which were highly appreciated by the players and officials. The competition was an exciting and thrilling spectacle, drawing praise from both spectators and tourists. The J&K Ice Team delivered an outstanding performance, securing 12 medals in speed skating and figure skating events.

1000m Short Track Speed Skating (Boys)

 

Gold: Saleem Ashraf Malik

 

Silver: Numan Bazaz

 

Bronze: Huzaif Ashraf Malik

 

 

Figure Skating (Boys)

 

Gold: Dabeer Wani

 

Silver: Umer Akbar

 

Bronze: Muneeb

 

 

500m Short Track Speed Skating (Girls)

 

Gold: Qurat-ul-Ain

 

Silver: Nehal Muzaffer

 

Bronze: Qubra Pindoo

 

The girls’ team also dominated the figure skating category, securing the top three positions and displaying exceptional skill on the ice. This marks the second edition of the Chinar Open Winter Games, organised on a grand scale by the Indian Army. The initiative has been widely appreciated for promoting winter sports and providing young athletes in J&K with a platform to showcase their talent in ice-skating, snow skiing, and other winter sports. The medal ceremony will take place on  March 15, following the snow skiing events at Kongdori.
