The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approved the distribution of additional free food grains to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
This decision, sanctioned by the Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, aligns with the Council of Ministers’ directive dated March 27, 2025.
As per Government Order No. 25-JK(FCS&CA) of 2025, dated April 2, 2025, the initiative aims to supplement the monthly food supply for AAY households while ensuring that individual beneficiaries do not receive more than 10 kg under all PDS schemes, including the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
The scheme is only applicable to AAY households registered under the Public Distribution System.
Households with up to three members will not receive additional grains, while those with four members will get 5 kg extra.
The allocation increases with the household size, reaching up to 65 kg for families with ten members.
Households with more than ten members will receive food grains based on the same calculation method.
Rice will be provided free of cost under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) based on its availability.
The Finance Department has been authorized to provide additional budgetary support for this initiative.
The financial requirements will be met through the Revolving Fund (Foodgrains) Accounts of the concerned Directorates.
Both Directors will utilize the Revolving Fund to implement the scheme, following the prescribed formalities.
This scheme is expected to provide significant relief to economically weaker families in Jammu and Kashmir.
