Phase I to cover 24 constituencies, nominations open until Aug 27
Anantnag, Aug 20: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued the notification for Phase I of the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections, scheduled for September 18, 2024. This phase will cover 24 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
In Kashmir, the constituencies include Kulgam (3 ACs), Anantnag (7 ACs), Shopian (2 ACs), and Pulwama (4 ACs). In Jammu, voting will take place in Kishtwar (3 ACs), Doda (3 ACs), and Ramban (2 ACs).
Candidates can file their nominations from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm on working days, excluding holidays, until August 27. Scrutiny of nominations is set for August 28, with the final date for withdrawal of candidatures on August 30.
With the official notification, political activities have intensified, with increased party meetings and shifts in political affiliations. The ECI has planned a three-phased election process: Phase I on September 18, Phase II on September 25, and Phase III on October 1.
Notably, the ECI has scheduled a three-phased Assembly election for J&K. Phase I of the elections will be held on September 18, followed by Phase II on September 25, and the final Phase III on October 1.
The polling day for these Assembly constituencies is scheduled for September 18, and the Polling will be conducted from 07:00 am to 06:00 pm, the notification reads.
Constituencies going to polls:
Kashmir Division: Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, D.H. Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara – Bijbehara, Shangus – Anantnag East, and Pahalgam.
Jammu Division: Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder – Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban, and Banihal.
