Srinagar, Jan 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) led a strong protest on Monday against what it termed “relentless attacks” on Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra (BJNY) led by Rahul Gandhi. The Congress alleged that these attacks were carried out by BJP workers on the directions of the Assam Chief Minister. The party demanded the dismissal of the state government for attempting to disrupt the yatra.
JKPCC President Vikar Rasool Wani, along with Congress leaders and workers, expressed strong opposition to the Assam government’s alleged attacks on Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra convoys, properties and leaders. It accused the BJP of employing goons to halt the yatra, which, according to them. “This has exposed the anti-people and wrong policies, especially the BJP’s fascism and hooliganism unleashed to strangulate Indian democracy,” he said.
Wani led the Congress leaders and workers in a peaceful march towards the Lal Chowk area of Srinagar from the Party Office. However, heavy police deployment restricted their movement, the party said in a statement.
He denounced the attack on the BJNY as a blatant attempt to obstruct the yatra, terming it an assault on the federal structure of the country and the Indian democratic system. “The Congress Party would not tolerate such anti-democratic moves and would continue to fight against vendetta politics unleashed by the BJP,” he said.
Vikar said that the yatra, led by Rahul Gandhi, would continue despite relentless attacks in Assam. “Rahul Gandhi’s fight for justice, discrimination and vendetta politics will continue undeterred and the yatra will move on, which is spreading a message of peace and harmony across the country,” he said.
“Every Congress worker will remain standing behind Rahul Gandhi declaring that no power on earth can stop this yatra, which is against the hate, divisive policies and injustice by the Modi government, he said.
The J&K Congress chief lashed out at the Assam Chief Minister over the attacks on Congress workers, cautioning that such designs are fraught with consequences. He urged people to condemn the intimidation and attacks on Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra in the strongest terms.
Similar protests were held in different districts in both Jammu and Kashmir provinces. Congress leaders and workers strongly condemned the attacks on Bharat Jodo Naya Yatra in Assam, according to the party statement.
