Jammu, Dec 16: Statehood and early assembly elections were among several resolutions passed by the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) in its Political Affairs Committee meeting on Saturday.
In the resolutions, the party demanded statehood to J&K, early assembly elections besides constitutional safeguards for jobs, resources and cultural identity of the region, Chief spokesperson of the J&K Congress, Ravinder Sharma, informed Rising Kashmir.
He said the meeting was headed by Rajni Patil, All India Congress Committee (AICC) In-charge, J&K Affairs.
In the resolutions, Congress also demanded constitutional safeguards for land, jobs, culture and languages of J&K, he added.
These resolutions will be sent to the Congress high command with the request that all like-minded parties should be consulted and these issues passed in the resolution be pursued vigorously, the chief spokesperson said.
The Congress also demanded the filling up of all vacant posts in all government and semi-government institutions on a fast-track basis.
“We have demanded the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in J&K since the delimitation has taken place in the Union Territory (UT),” Rajni Patil told reporters.
We are in favour of 33 percent reservation for women and it was our commitment, she added.
The Congress Party also demanded the restoration of the old system of recruiting youths to the army with a special focus on those from the border areas and the LOC.
