Srinagar, July 04: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has forecasted two days of light to heavy rainfall in both the Kashmir and Jammu regions from Wednesday evening until July 8, according to officials.
In Jammu, heavy rains on Tuesday brought the temperature several degrees below normal, providing relief from the hot and humid weather conditions in the region. Meanwhile, Kashmir experienced a hot and humid day.
Sonam Lotus, Director of the Meteorological Department Centre Kashmir, informed Rising Kashmir that light rain had lashed parts of Jammu, bringing respite from the scorching heat wave in the region.
“We are expecting light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at many places, along with intense showers for short periods at a few places during July 5 to July 8, in both Kashmir and Jammu regions,” Lotus stated.
Lotus further mentioned that some places in the plains of the Jammu region may receive moderate to heavy spells during the morning hours.
According to MeT data, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 30.5°C and a minimum temperature of 17.8°C. The ski resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir experienced the coldest temperatures, with a high of 20.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 11.8°C.
The health resort Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 26.0°C and a minimum temperature of 10.3°C. Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7°C and a minimum temperature of 26.7°C.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 30.8°C, while Banihal registered a maximum temperature of 28.5°C and a minimum temperature of 16.8°C.
According to the traffic spokesman, subject to fair weather and road clearance, SANJY Convoy/LMVs Passenger/Private Cars will be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e., Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. TCU Jammu/Srinagar will liaise with TCU Ramban before releasing this traffic.
“Moreover, in view of the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji yatra 2023 and hassle-free movement of trucks on NH-44, the administration has decided that all tankers of Pol, Diesel, LPG bulk gas, all empty LPG Cylinders carrying trucks, all empty vehicles of FCI, and any other vehicle having up to 10-tyres shall adopt the Mughal Road,” he added.
Similarly, vehicular movement on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road will be allowed from both sides, i.e., Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs will be followed by HMVs, which will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar from 7:30 am to 11:00 am and from Sonamarg towards Kargil from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timings.
On the Mughal Road, vehicular movement will be permitted from both sides, namely Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles will be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm. No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timings, the spokesman added.
