Srinagar, Aug 14: Ahead of the 77th Independence Day, Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel have bagged 76 medals for gallantry, distinguished and meritorious services sharing the second place with Maharashtra in the tally list among the States/UTs forces of the country, said a statement issued here.
As per the list released by Ministry of Home Affairs, J&K Police has been honoured with one President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS), 20 Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS) and 55 Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG). J&K Police has once again bagged the highest number of PMG medals among all the forces, the statement added.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar is among the fifty-five police officers hailing from the Jammu and Kashmir Police who have been honoured with the esteemed Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) by the President of India, acknowledging for their exceptional valour and dedication to duty.
Among them are the current DIG CKR, Sujit Kumar, the former DIG South Kashmir, Abdul Jabbar, and the former SSP Kulgam, GV SandeepChakravarthy.
In a tweet, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated ADGP Vijay Kumar and all police personnel of J&K Police who have been awarded prestigious Police Medal for Gallantry, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service & Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day 2023.
Director General of Police, J&K, Dilbag Singh has congratulated awardees and their families. He has expressed his gratitude to Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, Lt Governor, J&K, Manoj Sinha, officers of MHA and Home Department, J&K for honouring the valour and professionalism of J&K Police personnel.
The distinguished Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is bestowed in recognition of their remarkable acts of courage that have led to saving lives, protecting property, preventing crimes, and apprehending criminals. This distinction serves as a testament to the officers’ remarkable valour and dedication to maintaining law and order.
“This recognition not only underscores the sacrifices made by these officers but also highlights the pivotal role of law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of the community. Their unwavering commitment and exceptional efforts in challenging circumstances deserve commendation and acknowledgment,” he said.
It’s essential to highlight that the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) is bestowed as a tribute to exceptional acts of courage demonstrated in the preservation of lives and property, as well as in the prevention of crime and the apprehension of criminals.
Similarly as per the J&K UT Administration list, 74 Police personnel were honoured with Jammu Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry and 6 officers and officials received Jammu Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
As per the list among the awardees who have been bestowed upon with PPMDS and PMMS are MohdAftab Mir SSP who has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, while Police Medal for Meritorious Service has been awarded to 20 officers and officials that includes TahirSajjadBhat, SSP, Altaf Ahmad Shah, SSP, Girdharilal, SSP, Rakesh Kumar, SSP, Ravinder Pal Singh Dutt, Sanjay Singh Rana, SSP, ShafkatHussainBatt, SSP, Shivdeep Singh Jamwal, SSP, Dedar Singh, DySP, MohdAyoub Rather, DySP, Muzamil Ahmad Bhat, Inspector, Nisar Ahmad Shah, Inspector, PiarayLalPandit, Inspector, SetinderVir Singh, Inspector, AjitDhar, ASI, Ishrat Jan, SI (M), MohdIshtiyaqGojar, SI, Zaffar Ali Khan, SI, Riyaz Ahmad Shah, Inspector (c) and VivekKalsotra, Inspector Computer. Among the officers and officials who have been conferred with JKPMMS are DIG Sunil Gupta, DIG NishaNathyal, DIG JavedIqbalMatoo, SSP Arun Gupta, ASP Mohammad AfzalBhat and HC Bharat Bhushan.
