JAMMU, Aug 05: The Election Commission of India (ECI) is expected to issue the notification for the Assembly elections in the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) either on August 17th or 18th, according to highly placed sources.
“The notification for holding Assembly elections in J&K will be issued by the ECI by or before August 20th,” sources in the corridors of power informed Rising Kashmir on the condition of anonymity.
Union Minister G. Krishna Reddy mentioned today that elections in J&K are scheduled for September this year. The BJP also formed its Election Manifesto Committee yesterday to draft the manifesto for the Assembly elections.
The full Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and SS Sandhu, is scheduled to visit J&K from August 8-10 to review the preparedness for the upcoming Assembly elections.
During the 2-day visit, the Election Commission will meet political parties and review preparations for the elections with the Chief Secretary, DGP, District Election Officers (DEOs), and Superintendents of Police from all districts of J&K.
