Srinagar, Mar 04: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday started discussions on the Motion of Thanks to the Lieutenant Governor’s address.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather tabled the motion, which was moved by Mubarak Gul and seconded by Ghulam Ahmad Mir.
During his speech, Mubarak Gul said that the people had given a strong mandate to the government. He reiterated the demand for the restoration of statehood, calling it the rightful claim of Jammu and Kashmir.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir, while addressing the house, expressed gratitude to the people for their trust in the electoral process and their large participation in the Assembly elections. He urged legislators to use the house’s time wisely.
MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah stressed the importance of maintaining the dignity of the Assembly and working for the welfare of the people. He called for policies to boost sustainable tourism in Gulmarg, promote industrial growth, and generate employment opportunities for the youth.
Sham Lal Sharma, in his speech, said that there is need to strengthen institutions and work collectively for their development.
MLA Banihal Sajad Ahmad Shaheen appreciated the government’s roadmap for the development of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the government to focus on improving healthcare and educational infrastructure in his constituency and called for the restoration of statehood.
Raising concerns about the job security of NRHM employees, Dr. Rameshwar Singh urged the government to frame a policy for their regularization. He also called for more employment opportunities for J&K’s youth and demanded strict action against illegal mining activities.
The discussion on the Motion of Thanks will continue in the upcoming sessions of the Assembly.
