22-DAY SCORECARD • 481 FIRs registered • 518 drug peddlers arrested • 24 properties attached/demolished • Assets worth crores seized • 300+ driving licences cancelled • 325 vehicle registrations terminated • 3,000 drug stores inspected • 107 pharmacy licences suspended • 1 FIR for pharmaceutical violations
Srinagar, May 05: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has stepped up its anti-drug campaign, registering 481 FIRs and arresting 518 alleged peddlers within the first 22 days of the ongoing drive, officials said, as part of a 100-day 'Nasha Mukt' initiative launched by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on April 11.
Officials said 24 properties linked to drug peddlers have been attached or demolished after being identified as proceeds of crime, with assets worth crores also seized to weaken the financial network behind the trade.
Authorities have recommended cancellation of more than 300 driving licences and around 325 vehicle registrations linked to those involved in drug activities, a step aimed at restricting mobility and disrupting supply chains.
In a parallel crackdown on pharmaceutical misuse, nearly 3,000 drug stores were inspected across the Union Territory, leading to the suspension of 107 licences and registration of one FIR for violations. The campaign also targets larger networks linked to narco-terrorism, with agencies working to trace supply routes and financial links beyond local peddlers.
Alongside enforcement, the administration has expanded awareness efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, with programmes, rallies, and padyatras being held across Kashmir to educate people, especially youth, about the risks of drug abuse.
Officials said the Lieutenant Governor has directed district administrations to follow a focused and time-bound strategy for the remaining period of the campaign, calling for stronger grassroots engagement at Panchayat and ward levels involving community leaders, educators, and youth groups.
The administration maintains that strict enforcement and public participation will remain central to the campaign as efforts continue to curb drug abuse and dismantle trafficking networks.
