Srinagar, Mar 11: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has set an ambitious target to construct 500 kilometers of Expressway-way and access controlled corridor National Highways in the region by 2027.
According to an official document, the access controlled corridor (ACC) forms part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing connectivity, leveraging the area’s abundant natural resources, accessing new markets for agricultural products, and fostering the growth of local industries and tourism.
To bolster connectivity further, the government plans to build 300 kilometers of Major District Roads that will connect every village to district headquarters and capital cities, thereby promoting economic, social, and cultural development.
Additionally, the plan includes the construction of 2500 kilometers of other District and Village Roads to ensure rural populations benefit from improved road connectivity. These roads will be developed under the NABARD/PMGSY scheme, dedicated to supporting rural infrastructure.
In a significant move towards eco-friendly transportation solutions in hilly regions, the Central Government has introduced the “Parvatmala: National Ropeway Development Programme.” This initiative aims to establish 20 Ropeway Projects, reducing the necessity for road construction that could contribute to deforestation.
The ropeways are anticipated to enhance connectivity for commuters, bolster tourism, and offer an alternative mode of transportation in congested urban areas where traditional mass transit systems may not be feasible.
