Anantnag, March 28: A JCB operator died in an avalanche at the Sinthan Pass in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.
As per reports from NHIDCL (National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd), an operator lost his life during snow clearance at Sinthan Pass after an avalanche hit the area.
Tehsildar Larnoo, Sheikh Ansar Hussain told Rising Kashmir that the snow dozer was clearing the road on Daksum Sinthan Top road when avalanche hit the machine.
“The weather was fair today, so the operators were on snow clearance job some two kilometres below the Sinthan Top. Suddenly, an avalanche hit the JCB in which one driver lost his life,” he said.
The tehsildar identified the deceased driver as Javid Ahmad Zagoo, son of Abdul Aziz Zagoo, a resident of Dessu Khandipora of Tehsil Larnoo.
“A joint operation was immediately launched by Revenue, Police and NHIDCL to retrieve him,” he said, adding that the operator was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The deceased has been handed over to his family.
The road up to Sinthan Top was opened in the first week of March. However, the fresh snowfall in the area was being cleared on Tuesday when this incident happened.
