Jammu, Sep 05: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former minister Rajiv Jasrotia on Tuesday emphasised the obligation of every citizen to pay homage to the supreme sacrifice of martyrs. He asserted that the most fitting tribute to these heroes is active participation in the nationwide campaign ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh.’
During his visit to the residence of Surinder Sharma, who attained martyrdom during Operation Rakshak in 2000 in Srinagar, Jasrotia reiterated the importance of this patriotic initiative.
As part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ program, designed to honour the martyrs of the world’s largest democracy who laid down their lives in defence of the nation, the senior BJP leader, along with others, visited the martyr’s residence. They collected soil from the premises, which will be sent to the National Capital.
In his address, Rajiv Jasrotia stated, “We salute the great martyr Surinder Sharma and pay our heartfelt tributes to him for sacrificing his life for the cause of the nation and its people.” He highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this campaign involves collecting soil from the homes, surroundings, statues, and memorials of martyrs at various locations across the nation, including Jammu & Kashmir. This soil will contribute to the creation of ‘Amrit Vatika’ in front of Rashtrapati Bhawan on ‘Kartavya Path’ (formerly known as Rajpath).
Jasrotia emphasized that these initiatives, conducted under the slogan “Mitti Ko Naman, Veeron Ka Vandan,” aim to celebrate 77 years of Indian Independence. He noted that Kalash Yatras, transporting soil in 7500 urns, including those collected from Jammu and Kashmir, will ultimately reach the nation’s capital, Delhi, to merge with the soil at ‘Amrit Vatika.’ He urged the people of the nation to join the campaign and pay tribute to the ultimate sacrifices made by the Military, Para, Police, and other forces in the service of the nation and its people.
Prominent individuals accompanying Rajiv Jasrotia included Dr. Narinder Singh, Ashok Jasrotia, Vidya Sagar, Councilor Ravinder Pathania, Sardar JP Singh, Gian Singh, Ajay Singh, Ajay Gupta and T.R Bhagat.
