JAMMU, Aug 08: The much-awaited round-the-clock high-tech surveillance project as part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Jammu has been made fully functional.
As many as 680 high-resolution cameras installed at different locations of the city will help in streamlining vehicular traffic. Besides, a stretch of the Jammu-Srinagar national highway has also come under surveillance with the help of some of these cameras, officials said.
Apart from streamlining traffic, the cameras will also help to keep a track of traffic violations besides strengthening the security grid, the officials said.
“There are 70 prominent locations where these high-tech cameras have been installed under the ITMS across Jammu,” JP Singh, Manager, Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL), informed Rising Kashmir, while adding, “Out of the 70 locations, the ITMS at 44 locations has been keeping a close watch on both traffic violations as well as other activities”. The ITMS with high-tech cameras at 26 locations across Jammu is fully dedicated for round-the-clock surveillance on unlawful activities.
These cameras provide high resolution footage and pictures both during day and night capturing an area of at least 100 meters. The cameras are of different categories but the Pan Tilt Zoom (PTZ) cameras are the most high-tech as they capture a vast area evening during pitch dark conditions.
With help of the ITMS being in place at 70 locations, real time video footage and pictures would be available to the investigating agencies and the security forces whenever they require in case of unlawful activities and other offences.
The ITMS, with the help of cameras will also keep a close watch on the National Highway from Kaluchack to Nagrota, and right upto Muthi.
