Jammu, Marathon 2025: Thousands Join ‘Run for Fun’ by J&K Police to Promote Fitness

Veterans among 3000 participants from across India participate in event

Jammu, March 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Police Sunday hosted the Jammu Marathon 2025 – ‘Run for Fun’ at Gulshan Ground, as part of its Civic Action Programme (CAP). The event witnessed an overwhelming turnout, with over 3,000 participants from across India, including schoolchildren, veterans, and fitness enthusiasts.

There were nine race categories. Runners competed in distances ranging from 21 km to 2 km, catering to all age groups. Athletes from Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and other states took part, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for fitness and sports. The marathon aimed to foster youth engagement, fitness awareness and social unity, with a strong emphasis on steering young people away from negative influences.

21 km Half Marathon (Men):

10 km Road Race (Women, 18+):

Savita Paul (Uttar Pradesh)

Veerpal Kour (Punjab)

Shamshada Bano (Balicharana, Jammu)

 

10 km Road Race (Boys, Under 18):

 

 Parveen Kumar (Chenani, Udhampur)

 Vibhum Panday (Sainik School, Nagrota)

 Ankit Kumar (Ludhiana, Punjab)

 

10 km Junior Road Race (Girls, Under 18):

 Sania Choudhary

 

10 km Veterans Race (Women, 45+):

 

Manminder Kour (Trikuta Nagar, Jammu)

Tina Sahi (Jammu)

 Seema Khanyal (Gangyal, Jammu)

 

10 km Veterans Race (Men, 45+):

 

 Joga Singh (Ludhiana, Punjab)

Ram Raj (Pathyal, Jammu)

Parshotam Lal (Lakshmi Nagar, Muthi, Jammu)

 

5 km Sub-Junior Race (Boys, Under 14):

 

 Mohd Fareed (Rajouri)

Ummar Shoukat (Nagrota, Jammu)

Rahik Manhas (Katra, Reasi)

 

4 km Sub-Junior Race (Girls, Under 14):

 

 Komal (Gujjar Nagar, Jammu)

 Eleena Singh (Old Janipur, Jammu)

 Shabu Devi (Katra, Reasi)

 

2 km ‘Run for Fun’ (Open for All – Senior Citizens, Men, Women, & Children):

 

 Youngest Female: Nanshika Rajput (5 years old)

 Youngest Male: Priyansh Singh Saini (4 years old)

 Oldest Female: Amrit Kour (63 years old)

 Oldest Male: Angrez Singh (72 years old)

 

Prize Distribution and Closing Remarks

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by  M.K. Sinha, Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters/Coordination, PHQ, J&K), as the Chief Guest. Medals, certificates, and cash prizes totalling Rs 1,84,000 were awarded to the winners across various categories. In his address, i Sinha commended the enthusiastic participation of athletes from Jammu and Kashmir and beyond. He stressed that such initiatives are vital for community engagement, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and keeping youth away from harmful activities. Earlier, Anand Jain, ADGP Armed, highlighted the J&K Police’s unwavering commitment to public welfare through its Civic Action Programme. He expressed gratitude to officers, sports authorities, and organisers for making the event a resounding success, reinforcing the importance of sports in youth development.

Flag-Off Ceremony

The marathon was flagged off by  Anand Jain, ADGP Armed Police J&K, alongside esteemed dignitaries, including: Sarah Rizvi,  DIG IRP Jammu ,   Shiv Kumar,  DIG JSK Range, Rajesh Kumar, SSP Security Jammu, Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu and Dalip Kumar, SSP, SO to ADGP Armed. The Jammu Marathon 2025 reflects the J&K Police’s dedication to fostering fitness, social harmony, and public engagement. By organising such initiatives, the police aim to build stronger bonds with the community and inspire citizens to lead healthier, more active lifestyles.
