JAMMU, SEPT 26: The stage is set for elections in the 11 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) of Jammu district, with over 12 lakh voters gearing up to cast their ballots on October 1 during the third and final phase of the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly.
The district’s constituencies—Bishnah (SC), Suchetgarh (SC), R.S. Pura-Jammu South, Bahu, Jammu East, Nagrota, Jammu West, Jammu North, Marh (SC), Akhnoor (SC), and Chhamb—collectively have 12,00,977 registered voters. This includes 6,19,066 male voters, 5,81,887 female voters, and 24 third-gender voters.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up 1,494 polling stations across the district to ensure a smooth voting process, including 609 urban and 885 rural polling stations. Special facilities have been arranged for voters with disabilities (PwDs), with dedicated polling stations such as Pink Polling Stations managed by women, Green Polling Stations, and unique stations staffed by youths.
Among the ACs, the R.S. Pura-Jammu South constituency leads with 1,30,107 registered voters, including 67,322 males, 62,782 females, and 3 third-gender voters. This constituency will have 149 polling stations—98 urban and 51 rural. Bahu AC follows with 1,21,131 voters and 139 polling stations, while Bishnah (SC) has 1,19,988 voters and 139 polling stations.
Suchetgarh (SC) AC has 1,13,449 voters with 128 rural polling stations, while Jammu North AC, with 1,11,811 voters, will have 117 polling stations, including 87 urban and 30 rural stations. Jammu East AC has 1,07,213 voters and 153 polling stations, predominantly in urban areas. Jammu West AC has 1,06,252 voters with 118 polling stations, while Chhamb AC has 1,06,035 voters and the highest number of polling stations—165.
Nagrota AC has 96,007 voters, and 145 rural polling stations have been established. Akhnoor (SC) AC follows closely with 95,386 voters and 127 polling stations, and Marh (SC) AC, with 93,598 voters, has 114 polling stations.
First-time voters in the district number 47,963, with Chhamb AC boasting the highest count of 5,647 new voters. Senior citizens, making up nearly 18% of the electorate, will also play a crucial role, including 404 voters aged between 100 and 109 years, 29 super-centenarians aged 110-119, and six voters over 120 years old.
Meanwhile, extensive voter awareness programs are being conducted across Jammu to encourage maximum turnout and highlight the importance of participating in the democratic process.
Polling in Jammu is scheduled for October 1. All necessary arrangements are being made to ensure a peaceful and orderly election.
