Bandipora, Dec 22: A newly macadamised road in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district was damaged on Thursday after Jal Shakti department dug it to lay water pipeline.
Locals informed Rising Kashmir that the Gamroo-Gundpora road had recently been asphalted; however, the Jal Shakti department began excavating it to lay pipes, which caused harm to the road at several points.
The locals, exhibiting their dissatisfaction, said that the task of laying pipes should have been accomplished before macadamisation of the road.
Executive Engineer R&B Bandipora told Rising Kashmir that the work of installing pipes by the Jal Shakti department was executed without their approval and they have communicated with DC Bandipora and higher-level officials of the department.
“The work was done in the dark of night with the help of a JCB machine and without obtaining our permission. I have written to the department that this was not the proper way,” he added.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Bandipora, Syed Fiza Hussain Rizvi told Rising Kashmir that the work comes under the domain of JJM which is an important project for the welfare of the people but it should have not damaged another development.
“We have dug along the berm of the road which is meant for pipeline or cables. Even if the macadam is damaged at any place, we will repair it”, he added.
