For the eleventh time, the Jain Community has graciously donated the eyes of its members, enabling visually impaired individuals to behold the beauty of this colorful world and embrace life with newfound clarity.
Recently, the family of late Ravinder Jain from TalabTilloreached out to SOTTO J&K for eye donation. SOTTO J&K, in coordination with the GMC Eye Bank, facilitated the retrieval of corneas, offering the gift of sight to two blind individuals, as confirmed by GMC Principal, Dr.Ashutosh to Rising Kashmir.
The successful corneal transplantations, conducted on June 7th, 2024, at the Department of Ophthalmology, GMC Jammu, mark a significant milestone in the journey of vision restoration. Led by Dr. Ashok Sharma, Professor and Head of Ophthalmology, the surgical team bestowed the precious gift of vision upon two visually impaired patients.
The recipients, a 61-year-old female and a 55-year-old female, can now embrace life with renewed vigor and witness the myriad wonders of the world.
These successful surgeries were made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr.NeharikaVerma and Dr.Tapan Sharma, supported by the diligent eye OT staff members KamleshKumari (I/C OT), KamleshKumari, Ajay Sharma, and Sandeep Singh.
Moreover, the seamless coordination in the retrieval, transportation, storage, and transplantation of the deceased donor’s eyes reflects the collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment of the medical fraternity. Dr. Nancy Sharma, Dr.NaliniBirpuri, Dr.ManpreetKour, Rifat (SSN), and Akarshan (MTS), under the supervision of Dr. Hans Raj Sharma (Professor & Managing Director EyeBank) and Dr.Vijayta Gupta (Transplant Coordinator), played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of this noble endeavor.
This achievement underscores the dedication and expertise of the upgraded Department of Ophthalmology at GMC Jammu in advancing eye care and restoring vision, thereby illuminating countless lives with the light of hope and compassion.
