Pulwama, Dec 23: The Islamic University of Science and Technology’s (IUST’s) unique one year diploma course, “Swavalamban Skill to Enterprise Model” (STEM), is getting a huge response from applicants.
This innovative diploma course has been introduced by IUST from this academic year in collaboration with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to bolster the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
The course is offered through IUST’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) which operates as section 8 company.
“The admission for the STEM course is on till 31 December, 2023. We have seen a huge response for this course with many applications coming from industry people ,” Dr. Parvez Ahmad Mir, Director of CIED and CEO of the section 8 company informed Rising Kashmir.
He added that IUST Awantipora has taken this initiative to lead skilled youth through training and mentorship to large enterprises.
Dr Parvez said that the course has been designed in such a way that 70 per cent weightage has been given to lectures by people from the industry and 30 per cent basics will be covered by the varsity’s faculty.
He said that the curriculum has been designed by the varsity in association with SIDBI and people from the industry.
He added that this pilot programme initiated by CIED is highly focused by the varsity.
“The varsity will strive very hard to see that all the STEM diploma holders become large enterprise owners,” he said, adding that creation of large enterprises in Jammu and Kashmir will help in addressing the challenge of unemployment.
He revealed that the admission to this diploma course will be on the basis of screening and personal interview.
“Candidates having passed 12th class examinations with a certified skill are eligible for this course,” he said, adding that the intake capacity for the diploma is 30.
He said that the success of this programme will have a deep impact upon the education system of Jammu and Kashmir.
