Awantipora, Nov 29: CIED IUST organized a one-day workshop on “Air Pollution caused by e-waste: assessment and management” at the Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora.
Shri Tariq Ahmad Wani (Additional SP Traffic Central, JKP), Dr. Parvaiz Ahmad Mir (Director CIED), and Dr. Aijaz Qureshi (Coordinator Biodiversity Park) addressed the students and faculty members during the workshop.
Tariq Ahmad Wani gave a detailed presentation highlighting the causes of air pollution and its impact on human well-being. He said such workshops are essential in sensitising all society’s stakeholders to contribute in protecting the environment. Highlighting the challenges experienced in the efficient management of e-waste, Dr. Mir said that IUST has adopted an e-waste management policy stressing the adoption of the “best practicable environmental option” in the delivery of waste management services and application of the principle of reduce, reuse and recover waste products.
It was highlighted that the world is facing serious climate-related challenges and unless we change our attitude and prioritize sustainability, humanity is staring at an unimaginable catastrophe. Dr. Mir briefed the participants about the initiatives undertaken by the e-waste club of the CIED IUST in spreading awareness about pollution and the necessity of adopting and evolving mitigation strategies. The workshop was attended by the students and the faculty. Dr. Qureshi also informed the participants about the e-waste policy adopted by the University.
