IUST organizes AIDS awareness program

Awantipora, Dec 06: The Islamic University of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Jammu Kashmir AIDS Control Society (JKACS), Department of Health and Medical Education, J&K Govt., and Jammu & Kashmir Paramedical & Nursing Council, successfully hosted a week-long World AIDS Day program from December 1st to 5th, 2023. Under the aegis of the Red Ribbon Club, the Mantaqi Memorial College of Nursing and Medical Technology (SMMCN&MT) at IUST spearheaded the event, themed “LET COMMUNITIES LEAD.”
Prof. M. Ayoub Qadri, Dean School of Health Sciences praised the efforts of IUST in organizing such programs and urged students to champion awareness initiatives. Ms. Asmat Parveen, Principal SMMCN&MT said that such programs emphasized the need to address discrimination against AIDS patients, and underscored the significance of community-led initiatives. The program featured competitions, a human chain, poster-making, rangoli, and educational sessions aimed at fostering awareness.

Workshop on waste management held at IUST
Islamic University of Science and Technology organized a workshop on “Waste Management: Strategies, Stories, and Success”. The event organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with Dean of Students emphasized on the importance of proper waste management from public health and ethical standpoints.
Er Zahid Maqbool, from the Mechanical and Hospitals Division threw light on the mechanism of waste management in the city via landfilling and the techniques adopted. Er Kaiser Wani from Srinagar Municipal Corporation, highlighted the pathways of Waste Management at source and the techno-economics and policy framework for solid waste management. Dr. Ovais Gulzar, Head Department of Mechanical Engineering, highlighted IUST’s advanced facilities for efficient waste management. The event was coordinated by Dr. Mahvash Afzal. A panel discussion on E-waste disposal, with Dr. Rumman Bashir Dean SOET IUST, Dr. Kaiser Giri Director DIQA, Dr. Majid Koul as the panelists was also conducted on this occasion.
