Pulwama, Sep 27: As part of the community outreach Initiatives, a one-day sensitization program was organized by IUST on drug addiction.
The program was organized by Syed Mantaqui Memorial College for Nursing and Medical Technologies under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to sensitize students from Government Degree College Awantipora against drug addiction.
Speaking about the Community Outreach Initiatives of IUST, Prof. Lily Want, Dean Outreach IUST & Chief Guest of the program said, “Our Outreach initiatives are part of our Social Responsibility program, where we aim to develop strong communication connections with our students and other communities. We have dedicated our resources to transfer the benefits of the academic research held at IUST to its real beneficiaries”.
Referring to drug addiction as one of the major programs that the union territory is facing today, Asmat Parveen, Principal SMMCMR said, “Jammu and Kashmir is home to about 6 lakh drug addicts, according to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime. The use of drugs has increased in the past three years accounting for 4.6% of the population in the UT of JK with about 90% of them in the age group of 17–33 and 65 to 70% comprising the student population)”.
