Awantipora, June 17: The Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), through its School of Engineering and Technology, recently concluded a wide-ranging career counselling and outreach drive across the Kashmir. The initiative is one of the most ambitious community engagement efforts by the university aimed at empowering students with information about undergraduate and postgraduate opportunities.

The outreach spanned South, North, and Central Kashmir, including Pulwama, Shopian, and Budgam districts. Five dedicated teams comprising 20 faculty members from various departments of engineering and technology visited around 25 educational institutions. The drive focused on motivating and guiding students on academic, research, and innovation pathways available at IUST and helping them make informed career decisions.

This extensive initiative was led by senior academic members including Dr. Feroz Ahmad Mir (Head, ECE), Dr. Khalid Muzafar (Associate Professor, ECE), Dr. Tariq Ahmad Ganaie and Dr. Farhana Mehraj Allai (Dept. of Food Technology), and Dr. Mohd Junaid Mir (Dept. of Mechanical Engineering). They were joined by other faculty members from Computer Science, Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering departments, including Dr. Assif Assad, Dr. Basharat Nabi Dar, Dr. Zahid Gulzar Khaki, Dr. Rayees Ahmad Lone, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Ganie, Syed Mujtiba Hussain, Dr. Syed Zubair Ahmad Shah, Dr. Ahsan Hussain, Shakeel Ahmad Malik, Dr. Zubair Jeelani, Dr. Ovais, Dr. Jasia Nisar, Dr. Mehnaz Rasool and Dr. Faheem Sadiq.

During their visits, the teams directly interacted with students, offering career insights, showcasing IUST’s cutting-edge infrastructure, and highlighting the university’s emphasis on innovation, entrepreneurship, and holistic student development. The initiative was warmly received by students and school administrators alike, who appreciated IUST’s proactive efforts in bridging the information and opportunity gap. Dr. Kaiser J. Giri, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, expressed gratitude to the participating faculty and emphasized the university’s ongoing commitment to community outreach. He said that IUST remains dedicated to serving society and empowering youth through education and guidance. He added that such initiatives will continue as part of IUST’s broader mission to nurture future-ready students.
