Srinagar, July 04: Islamia College has launched a series of significant events spearheaded by Principal Professor (Dr.) Tehmina Yousuf. The initiatives commenced with an Entrepreneurship Awareness Program, followed by activities marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Annual Road Race 2024, and Cyber Jaagrookta Events.
The Entrepreneurship Awareness Program, a collaborative effort between the Innovation and Incubation Centre (IIC) of Islamia College and JKEDI, Srinagar, was attended by a large gathering of students, faculty, and staff. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Jhat introduced the program’s theme, highlighting its relevance in today’s economy. In her welcome address, Professor (Dr.) Yousuf emphasized the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship skills among students, considering the dynamic job market.
Ms. Syed Miftah Zahoor from JKEDI delivered an extensive presentation, while student entrepreneurs shared their ventures and sought expert advice on issues like seed money and patenting. The session, moderated by Mr. Aijaz Ahmed Mulla, Aga Syed Waahid, and Ms. Syed Miftah Zahoor, was coordinated by Dr. Nusrat Parveen, NSS Officer Unit-III.
In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the college organized an educational program under the aegis of NSS Unit-II. Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Suhaff, Consultant Psychiatrist at GMC, Srinagar, presented critical insights into drug abuse, stressing early intervention and professional help. Professor (Dr.) Yousuf highlighted the causes of addiction and the youth’s role in combating this issue, calling drug addiction a devastating problem for the younger generation.
The Annual College Road Race 2024, organized by the Department of Physical Education, saw enthusiastic participation from 125 students. The race was flagged off by Professor (Dr.) Yousuf and followed scenic routes around Dal Lake, culminating at Duck Park Garden, Srinagar. The prize distribution ceremony took place at Naseem Bagh Park, with Professor (Dr.) Yousuf encouraging students to participate in such physical activities.
Additionally, the college celebrated Cyber Jaagrookta Diwas, an initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) to raise awareness about cybercrime prevention. The event featured a session moderated by Prof. Wahid, with a detailed presentation by Nayeem Abass, Cyber Forensic Consultant at Crime Branch Headquarters, Srinagar.
These events reflect Islamia College’s commitment to fostering awareness and skills among its students in various crucial areas.
