Srinagar, June 15: Islamia College Cultural Committee, in partnership with ASG Eye Hospital, hosted a highly successful Eye Screening Camp for the students and staff of the college.
The initiative was inaugurated by Professor (Dr.) Khursheed Ahmad Khan, the esteemed Principal of the college, who expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the camp taking place on the college premises. Recognizing the significance of such events, he highlighted the importance of raising awareness about eye health among the college community.
During his address, Professor Khan emphasized the value of regular eye examinations in improving the quality of day-to-day life. The primary objective of the camp was to promote awareness regarding eye disorders, encourage early detection, and identify refractive errors and other eye ailments among the students. Furthermore, the eye screening camp aimed to address the issue of cataract blindness, a concern under the National Programme for the Control of Blindness.
The initiative was spearheaded by Professor Uheedah Shah, the coordinator of the camp, who had proposed the idea of organizing an interactive session with eye specialists. Professor Shah stated that the camp provided screenings for refractive errors and other major causes of vision impairment among students and staff. Minor ailments were treated on-site, while those requiring further management were referred to a base hospital.
Professor Uheedah Shah extended her gratitude to Dr. Manzoor Ul Mehdi, the Director of ASG, Srinagar, Ms. Bhagvati Devi, the Head of ASG Group of Hospitals, Dr. Abhi Langer, the Central Manager of ASG Group of Hospitals, Rameez, the Manager of ASG, Srinagar, and Swapul Jaswal, the Media Coordinator of ASG Srinagar, for their efforts in conducting the eye camp at Islamia College. She also expressed appreciation for the ASG Eye Hospital and its dedicated medical team, including doctors, paramedical ophthalmic assistants, optometrists, and camp organizers.
The highlight of the event was a keynote address by Dr. Manzoor Ul Mehdi, Director of ASG, Srinagar, who provided valuable advice and tips to students on managing eye pain and other symptoms. He stressed the importance of proper eye care and long-term preservation of vision, reminding the audience that eyesight does not naturally improve with age.
The eye screening camp organized by Islamia College, in collaboration with ASG Eye Hospital, stands as a testament to the commitment of educational institutions and healthcare providers towards promoting eye health and raising awareness about vision-related issues. Such initiatives play a crucial role in ensuring a healthier and more informed community.
