Kulgam, Sep 11: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat on Monday called for involving more farmers, especially the unemployed youth, under various welfare programmes so that they can avail benefits for their sustainable livelihood.
The DC emphasised disseminating awareness among the people about various new and scientific beekeeping cultivation methods so that production and productivity are leveraged. He urged the concerned to ensure handholding of farmers not only in increasing the production but to work on marketing aspect to fetch the best prices for their products
The Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Kulgam on Monday organised a seminar-cum-awareness programme on ‘Transformation of Bee Keeping’, under National Beekeeping & Honey Mission (NBHM) here. This programme was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam and was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Showkat Ahmad Rather; Joint Director Agriculture Extension Kashmir, G M Dobi, Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Kashmir Tabsum Naz, Chief Agriculture Officer Kulgam and other officers besides farmers, beekeepers and unemployed youth.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADDC asked the farmers to take maximum benefit under the programme by getting training and awareness of different government schemes to establish their income-generating units under the Apiculture sector.
During the seminar, the resource persons provided awareness to the beekeepers regarding the potential of beekeeping in the Kulgam district. They also highlighted different government schemes for handholding of the aspiring beekeepers.
