International Day against Drug Abuse observed at Budgam

To commemorate International Day against Drug Abuse, a one day seminar was organised by District Administration Budgam in collaboration with the Social Welfare department.

The seminar was chaired by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Akshay Labroo.

Besides SSP Budgam Al-Tahir Gilini, District Programme officer Budgam, CEO, CMO, DSWO, DIO, other officers and officials of the department were present on the occasion.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, the DC emphasised on massive awareness generation on drug abuse as it is an important part followed by enforcement and treatment to curb the menace in the society.

He said, though the civil and police administrations are doing their work however, we all as society have to play the role and save our youth.

He said the District Administration is putting all efforts to curb the menace.

He said the need is to involve youth towards co-curricular and sports to channelize their energy into positive directions, which could help them build their careers in different sports.

The DC said small camps need to be organised at block level so that awareness against menace of drugs percolates to the person living in the last corner of the District.

SSP Budgam, while addressing the seminar advised the parents to pay keen attention towards the behavior of their children and desist from putting any psychological pressure upon them which could attract them towards drug menace.

He also advised youth to take part in sports activities besides excelling in their academics.

He said Drug victims should be treated as a patient not as a criminal, so that together we could take him out from this drug- net which is spreading in our community at large.

While presenting the welcome address, the DSWO, Dr Farhana Asgar highlighted the achievements by the District Administration in curbing the menace in Budgam.

She said that the Social Welfare office Budgam has been working tirelessly to create awareness through nukkad nataks, seminars and other public outreach programmes under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan to ensure the drug abuse is controlled and fully curbed in the District.

She also informed that the first additional treatment facility was set up in Budgam.

She further informed that the district bagged second position at national level for its work under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan across the country last year.

CMO Budgam, CEO, DIO also spoke on the occasion and urged youth to stay away from drugs.

The guest speakers emphasised upon everyone to play a role in creating awareness and help in curbing drug abuse from society.

In the backdrop of this mega event at District level, similar awareness programmes were also held in almost all education institutions of District Budgam.
