Following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, a team of Food Safety/ Drug and Food Control Organisation conducted an intensive inspection drive at Jehangir Chowk and Hari Singh High Street and other adjoining markets here today.

The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Srinagar, Yamin ul Nabi to inspect roadside eateries and Kashmiri snack stalls.
The primary objective of the inspection was to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act, particularly in terms of sanitary and hygienic conditions.

The team inspected various food stalls and vendors, checking for adherence to proper food handling, storage, and preparation practices.

During the inspection, roadside vendors were educated on the importance of maintaining hygiene and sanitary standards. They were also instructed to take measures to protect prepared food from environmental hazards and pests. Failure to comply with these regulations would result in the cessation of their operations under the FSS Act.

Furthermore, food business operators involved in the preparation of ready-to-eat food were directed to undergo pest control measures at their premises. They were also advised against setting up temporary stalls near or over drains, as this could lead to contamination and other health risks.

Non-compliance with these directives would invite action under relevant rules and regulations.

The inspection drive is part of the ongoing efforts by the Drug and Food Control Organisation to ensure food safety and quality in Srinagar. The organisation is committed to protecting public health and promoting a culture of food safety awareness among food business operators.
