Srinagar, Sept 28: Two terrorists were killed in Keran sector of Kupwara district on Sunday after security forces foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector, officials said.According to security sources, troops deployed in the forward areas observed suspicious movement close to the LoC during the early hours of the day. When challenged, the infiltrators opened fire, leading to a brief but fierce exchange of gunfire. In the ensuing encounter, both terrorists were neutralised.Officials confirmed that the bodies of the slain terrorists have not yet been recovered due to the challenging terrain and ongoing combing operations in the area. A senior Army official said that he anti-terror search operation is underway. Recovery will take some time as the area is thickly forested and lies close to the LoC.“We believe the infiltration attempt is part of a wider push by terror groups operating from across the border. Such attempts usually spike in the weeks preceding winter,” he said. The official said that there are always attempts to infiltrate before snowfall. With about two months left, the chances remain until November, as terrorists know their window will close for the next six months. “But due to the alertness of the forces, infiltration has become very difficult,” he added. In a related development, BSF on Sunday launched a major search operation after detecting a suspected Pakistani drone along the International Border in Samba district. The drone was reportedly sighted hovering over Karalian village in the Ramgarh sector around 6.30 am. According to officials, it flew briefly over the area before vanishing from sight. BSF troops immediately cordoned off the village and carried out extensive searches in nearby fields and habitations to ensure that no weapons, ammunition, or narcotics were airdropped from across the border. “The area was thoroughly checked to rule out any airdrop of contraband or arms. The search operation was still continuing till late evening,” a BSF spokesperson said.On Saturday, Inspector General of Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier, Ashok Yadav, said that security forces are on high alert along the Line of Control (LoC) and are fully prepared to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists. “The months before winter bring significant threats, but our forces are vigilant. We maintain a robust presence along the LoC and are ready to neutralize any infiltration bid,” he added.
