Srinagar, Jan 20: An IndiGo flight traveling from Delhi to Srinagar faced a mid-air challenge on Saturday evening, leading to an unexpected return to Delhi airport.
Approximately 180 passengers on board experienced a tense situation as the aircraft altered its course due to reported technical issues.
A spokesperson for IndiGo stated that the flight unexpectedly returned to Delhi airport due to technical issues, emphasizing that passenger safety remained the top priority throughout the incident. The nature of the technical glitch has not been disclosed yet, as the airline is actively working with relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, passengers were reportedly kept informed and reassured by the flight crew.
“IndiGo is actively working to accommodate affected passengers on alternative flights to ensure minimal disruption to travel plans,” added the spokesperson.
Aviation experts and engineers are diligently examining the aircraft to identify and rectify the technical malfunction. Authorities from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) have been notified of the incident, and their collaboration with the airline is expected to shed light on the cause of the technical issues.
Meanwhile, Delhi Airport, in its advisory, has announced daily closures of Delhi airspace for 2.5 hours until the 26th to accommodate Republic Day airshow rehearsals. No flight arrivals or departures are scheduled at Delhi airport from 10.20 am to 12.45 pm every day from January 19 to January 26 in connection with Republic Day preparations and celebrations. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has revised the NOTAM (notice to airmen) to introduce the new restrictions.
