Srinagar, Apr 22: A year after the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people, majority of them tourists dead, the wounds remain fresh, so does the nation’s resolve. From Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Union Minister Amit Shah to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, leaders across the political spectrum of the country on Wednesday paid a solemn tribute to the victims, to express grief and reaffirm an unyielding commitment to confront terrorism with clarity, strength and unity.

Prime Minister Modi took to his X handle and wrote: “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss. As a nation, we stand united in grief and resolve. India will never bow to any form of terror. The heinous designs of terrorists will never succeed.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in his message on X, said the grief of the tragedy continues to weigh heavily on every Indian. Calling terrorism the “greatest enemy of humanity,” he underlined the need for collective resolve to defeat it, while reaffirming that India would continue to pursue a strict zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and those who support it.

Remembering the innocent lives lost in the April 22, 2025, attack, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the incident as a cowardly act that left an indelible scar on the nation’s conscience. In his post on X, he said India’s response to terrorism today is “firm, decisive and unwavering,” asserting that any attempt to harm its people or disrupt its unity would be met with strength and clarity.

At the regional level, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also took to X to pay heartfelt homage to the victims, asserting that their memory remains etched in the nation’s heart. In a strong and unequivocal message, he reiterated a solemn pledge to eradicate terrorism from the Union Territory, stating, “We will not forget. We will not forgive.”

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in his post on X, struck a tone of unity and resolve. He said that even a year on, Jammu and Kashmir stands united against terror and violence, reiterating his government’s commitment to ending the cycle of suffering and protecting innocent lives. He also expressed enduring solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones, assuring that every effort would be made to ensure such a tragedy is never repeated.

As the anniversary is marked with remembrance and reflection, Pahalgam stands as both a symbol of profound loss and enduring resilience. The collective message from the nation is clear-- while the pain persists, so does an unshakeable determination to defeat terror and uphold the peace.
