It is an open secret now that the Canadian Prime Minister J. U. Justin Trudeau has a belligerent policy towards India. He has been repeatedly making allegations against India. The recent incident that has worsen the relations between the two countries is regarding the accusations by the Prime Minister of Canada, where he says that India hired Lawrence Bishnoi gang to target the Khalistani terrorist on its soil. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolly has also went to the extent of saying that sanctions may be imposed. For India, Trudeau’s stance is not new but India knows it well now that Canada has joined any India lobby. It is an open war now at the diplomatic level. Both countries have expelled six diplomats each as a part of punitive action to settle the score. The turning point in bilateral relations between India and Canada went down the slope with the killig of a Khalistani radical Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India has denied these allegations. Canadian allegations are a mask, Khalistani radicals have been exploiting the Canadian electoral system. Parties in Canada choose the political nominees that have to show letters of support from the voters. Canadian Sikhs have a strong community base in Canada that certainly influences the electoral octcome. Another reason that has an impact on the Canadian electoral system is that the charities can finance the electoral politics. It is now an open secret that some Gurudwara Golaks exploit this system to finance the candidates and it enables the Khalistani radicals to gain ground in Canada. Though the presence of Khalistani radicalism and it’s patronage is not new to Canada but it has reached a new level. Now supporting and co-opting this radicalism in the policy making premise of Trudeau government has crossed all limits. He has been instrumental cultivating the Khalistani leaders for gaining the political foothold. If we go back in history there is an incident of Ambassador K. P. Fabian who was attached by Khalistani radicals. Now that magnitude has increased. This has to be carefully examined. Infact, Trudeau wants to make relations healthy with China. Even the US has been involved in the game to hold India in pincer in this issue. Canada is trying to balance the relations with the US and China at the cost of India.India has to do a course correction to compartmentalize India-US relations from the emerging Canadian Policy towards India. So that India’s national interest are upheld at all costs. Things are becoming clear that Trudeau is more interested in cultivating Khalistani radicalism and not in a mood to nurture India-Canada relations. National security concern demands that India must send a strong signal that communicates territorial integrity and sovereignty is non-negotiable. It will not tolerate any policy that supports sub versives working for balkanisation of India.
