Srinagar, Nov 24: Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi on Monday warned that he will rejoin protesting students if the government fails to resolve the pending recruitment issue by the end of the current Parliament session on December 20.
“I will sit with them again the way we did last December — and this time, it won’t be just for a day,” he said.
Ruhullah expressed concern over what he described as unnecessary delays in addressing long-standing grievances of aspirants affected by alleged recruitment irregularities and administrative shortcomings. He also pointed to recent developments at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, where meritorious candidates have raised objections to the recruitment process.
He noted that authorities had repeatedly failed to honour their own timelines. An earlier assurance of resolution within six months had now stretched to a year. Another promise, made just before the Budgam Assembly election, suggested a decision would come within “a few days”, yet no formal outcome has followed.
The NC MP said the prolonged delay had already cost candidates valuable academic years and employment opportunities, questioning whether future decisions could compensate for that loss. He also asked whether “personal or political considerations” were impeding progress.
The Srinagar MP said he was willing to step aside for a month if it would allow the administration to directly engage with the students and resolve the matter “rationally”, even if that meant distancing them from him politically.
He urged the government to settle the issue within the ongoing Parliament session and reiterated that if no progress is made by December 20, he will once again join the students in protest.
