Srinagar, Dec 30: Traders Association Central Lal Chowk on Tuesday expressed hope for restoration of historic old court complex at Lal Chowk following a visit by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo.
Feroz Ahmad Baba, President of the Traders Association Central Lal Chowk, said the issue of restoring the historic court complex was taken up with the Deputy Commissioner. “He has assured us that the building will be restored and that some government offices may be shifted there,” he said.
Baba noted that one of Srinagar’s most significant heritage buildings has remained abandoned and unused for years, prompting repeated demands from traders for its restoration and utilisation for public purposes.
“There has been a long-standing demand to revive the structure and put it to use by accommodating government offices,” he added.
The association also expressed gratitude to the Deputy Commissioner for visiting Lal Chowk and listening to their concerns. “We sincerely thank the DC Srinagar for visiting the area, addressing our grievances and assuring timely redressal,” Baba said.
Meanwhile, Suhail Shah, Vice President of the Traders Association said issues related to the Smart City project were also discussed during the visit.
Speaking on the restoration of the old court complex, Shah said the assurance given by the Deputy Commissioner had brought renewed optimism. “We are hopeful that concrete efforts will now be made to restore the old court complex, which has remained unused for several years,” he said.
