The First Dawn, Kashmir’s Shared Silence

POINT TAKEN  As dawn breaks, the first fast of Ramadan begins. The mosques of Srinagar fill before the streets even awaken. This shared abstinence unites the Valley in a purpose that transcends politics, wealth, and factionalism. Midday hunger teaches a lesson no lecture can: the reality of shared human limits. When the merchant pauses beside the labourer, and the student stands beside the teacher, every stomach speaks the same language. This is a natural equality that no politician can grant. Patience grows through thirst, causing arguments to soften and disputes to be set aside. Ramadan enforces a truth modern life often forgets: restraint builds character. In Kashmir, this first fast carries special weight. Amidst the scars of the past, a shared spiritual discipline reminds us that we remain one community. Political divisions fade when we face hunger together. May the silence of this dawn give birth to an evening of deep gratitude.
