Jammu, Jan 29: As winter tightens its grip over the Jammu division, bringing heavy snowfall and repeated disruptions to road and air traffic, the railways have once again emerged as a dependable lifeline for passengers headed to the Kashmir. In response to strong public demand and the recent spell of inclement weather, Northern Railway has announced the operation of a special reserved train between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar on January 31. A statement issued here said that the decision follows the successful operation of similar special trains on January 27 and 28, which witnessed an overwhelming response from passengers, running with over 100 per cent occupancy. With highways blocked and flights frequently delayed or cancelled, the special train service has provided much-needed relief to tourists and local travellers alike. According to the announced schedule, Special Reserved Train No. 04629 will depart from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra at 10:30 am and reach Srinagar at 1:30 pm, halting at Banihal Railway Station en route. On the return journey, Special Reserved Train No. 04630 will leave Srinagar at 3:00 pm the same day and arrive back at Katra at 6:00 pm, with the same stoppage pattern. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal, said the train is being operated once again keeping in view passenger demand and the ongoing disruption of other modes of transport. He noted that the periodic running of special trains in the Jammu division has significantly boosted passenger confidence in the railway system, particularly among tourists visiting Kashmir during the winter months. Passengers have been advised to make use of the facility and seek further details through the official railway website, by dialling 139, or via the NTES platform.
