SKUAST-K inaugurates National Seminar on "Decoding Climate Change: The Role of Statistical Models and Data Analytics"

Srinagar, Nov 26: The Division of Agricultural Statistics, SKUAST-Kashmir, today inaugurated a two-day National Seminar titled “Decoding Climate Change: The Role of Statistical Models and Data Analytics.” Sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research - North Western Regional Centre (ICSSR-NWRC), the event aims to foster collaboration between statisticians and climate scientists while highlighting novel AI and ML-driven approaches to climate science.
According to a statement issued here, the inaugural ceremony was graced by  Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished dignitaries present included Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi (Director, ICSSR), Prof. Mohd. Altaf Bhat (Director Education), Prof. A. A. Khan (Registrar), Prof. Mohd. Sultan Bhat (Dean Research, Kashmir University), Prof. Bashir Ahmad Ganai (Director CORD, Kashmir University)and the young freelance weather forecaster Faizan Arif The programme commenced with a formal welcome address by Prof. Imran Khan, Head of the Division of Agricultural Statistics. This was followed by a comprehensive overview of the seminar by the Organising Secretary, Dr. Immad A. Shah, who outlined the seminar's objectives to bridge the gap between statistical methodologies and climate research.
In her address, Prof. Upasna Joshi Sethi emphasized the importance of social science research in understanding climate impacts. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, in his presidential address, highlighted the critical role of data analytics and modern statistical tools in decoding complex climate patterns and formulating mitigation strategies.
The inaugural session concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Prof. T. A. Raja.
