Srinagar, Oct 8:  In a major crackdown, the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) on Wednesday carried out raids at eight locations across seven districts of the Kashmir Valley as part of an ongoing investigation into a sleeper cell module linked to proscribed terrorist organisations. The searches were conducted under FIR No. 01/2025, registered at Police Station CI/SIA Kashmir, officials said. According to a senior police official, the case pertains to a sleeper cell network operating under the command of terrorist handlers from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). “The module is being used to spread secessionist propaganda, radicalise youth, and facilitate their recruitment into terrorist ranks,” the official added. The simultaneous raids spanned all three police ranges, North, Central, and South Kashmir, underscoring the extensive footprint of the suspected network. Police said substantial incriminating material was recovered during the operations, including documents, electronic devices, and other evidence believed to be crucial for the ongoing investigation. Several suspects were also detained for questioning. A police spokesman said in continuation of its unrelenting efforts to crack down on sleeper cell modules, the SIA carried out extensive searches across eight locations on Wednesday. “These operations highlight our commitment to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure that such modules do not pose a threat to the security and sovereignty of the region. The suspects have been detained and are being interrogated, and substantial incriminating material has been seized to further the investigation,” he said. The spokesman said that the preliminary investigation has clearly established the active engagement of these entities in a terrorist conspiracy aimed at propagating and furthering anti-India narratives. “These activities are designed not only to challenge the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India but also to incite disaffection, public disorder, and communal tension in the region,” he said. The spokesman added that SIA operation marks another step in the agency’s sustained efforts to dismantle terrorist networks in the valley, and similar operations  will continue until the terror infrastructure is fully neutralised.
