Srinagar, Jan 29: Srinagar Police on Thursday organised a Lok Darbar-cum-Awareness Programme on new criminal laws (Thana Diwas) at multiple police stations and a police post across the city as part of the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s public outreach initiative.
In the second phase of the programme for January 2026, the event was conducted at nine police stations and one police post, including Panthachowk, Khanyar, Rajbagh, Nigeen, R.M. Bagh, Shaltang, Nowhatta, Saddar, Zakoora and the Urdu Bazar Police Post.
The meetings were chaired by supervisory and jurisdictional police officers and were attended by members of civil society, including representatives of Auqaf Committees, traders’ bodies, transporters, Panchayati Raj institutions, religious leaders and local elders.
During the interactions, participants raised several issues of public concern, including illegal narcotics trafficking, sand mafia, traffic problems and challenges posed by floating populations. Issues related to civil administration, such as road maintenance, sanitation, public health and electricity supply, were also highlighted and recorded.
Police officials said the programme served as a platform for direct interaction between the police and the public, enabling citizens to voice grievances and suggestions. They urged community members to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in curbing the drug menace and identifying anti-social elements to maintain peace and order.
Participants assured their cooperation in strengthening police–public relations and promoting a safer social environment. Srinagar Police said such initiatives aim to enhance transparency, accountability and effective grievance redressal at the grassroots level.
