Sandhya scores quick-fire fifty as Hyderabad thrashes J&K by 92 runs

Rajkot, Oct 01: Talented opening batter Sandhya Gora scored a brisk half-century as formidable Hyderabad thrashed Jammu and Kashmir by a big margin of 92 runs in the U-19 Women's T20 Trophy at Sanosara Cricket Ground-B, Rajkot here on Tuesday. Earlier, put into bat, Hyderabad rode on a power-packed innings of 61 runs off just 50 balls, studded with 11 delectable boundaries by Sandhya Gora and her magnificent opening partnership of 90 runs with Kavya (38 runs off 31 balls) to score a good total of 147 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Both the openers were brilliant with the willow, hitting the ball with sublimity, solidity, elegance and fluidity. Apart from these two, Gayatri Chowhan and Katta contributed unbeaten 11 and 8 runs respectively. For J &K, Mahika Singh Rana and Rhidima Rajput bagged 2 wickets each, while Mariya Noorain claimed one wicket. In reply, J&K managed to score just 55 runs in the allotted 20 overs by losing 7 wickets, thus lost the match by a huge margin of 92 runs. Only two J&K batters--Alisa Jan (11) and Ridhima Rajput (11) crossed the double figure mark. For Hyderabad, Deekshitha was the pick of the bowlers, who took 2 wickets by conceding just 4 runs in her 3 overs, while Kesari Drithi, Vaishnavi Yadav, Jazmine Gill and Katta claimed one wicket each. Jammu and Kashmir will take on Punjab in the next outing at Sanosara Cricket Ground-A, Rajkot tomorrow. Skipper Joshitha, Niranjana's brilliance helps Kerala register Super-Over win over formidable Punjab Rajkot, Oct 01: Leading from the front, skipper Joshitha VJ salvaged a sinking ship by scoring magnificent 45 not out and resulted in two crucial run-outs and along with Niranjana helped Kerala to stop roaring Punjab and register a thrilling Super-Over win in the ongoing Women's U-19 T20 Trophy ended in a tie at Sanosara Cricket Ground-A Rajkot on Tuesday. Niranjana bowled a superb over for Kerala to concede just 5 runs in the Super Over and helping her side script an emphatic victory. Earlier, chasing a fighting total of 133 runs, Punjab eves began with caution and aggression and the opening batter Harsimranjit scored brisk 31 runs off just 25 balls with 5 delectable boundaries, giving her team a solid foundation. However, Joshtha's agility, anticipation, sharp reflexes and a pair of safe hands resulted in two run-outs in the form of Divya and Sukhmanat Kaur to put Punjab under pressure and finally restrict them to 133/8 in 20 overs, thus the scores levelled and the match was decided via Super-Over. Harsimranjit top scored with 31 runs, while Shruti Tiwari, Alisha and Vanshika Mahajan contributed 30, 23 and 16 runs to the total respectively. Niranjana N and Ashima Antony took 2 wickets each for Kerala, while Isabel claimed one wicket. Three Punjab batters fell short of making the crease. Earlier, winning the toss and electing to bat first, Kerala after early hiccups, rode on the batting brilliance of their charismatic skipper Joshitha VJ and came back strongly to post a good total of 133 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Losing early two wickets with just one run on the board, Kerala were struggling at 34/5 in 9.2 overs with almost all their top and middle-order back to the pavilion. However, a brilliant batting display by Joshitha, Isabel and Manasvi guided the team to list a formidable total. Joshitha remained unbeaten on power-packed 45 runs off 27 balls studded with 6 fours and one six, while Manasvi and Isabel contributed 21 runs each. For Punjab, Parineeta Saroha took 3 wickets by conceding 23 runs in her 4 overs, while Mohini Rana, Surbhi, Harma and Akshita Bhagat claimed one wicket each.
