Rs 1.10 cr compensation disbursed to flood-hit in Thanamandi: Govt

Jammu, Feb 06: : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Friday informed the Legislative Assembly that a total compensation of Rs 1.10 crore has been disbursed to families affected by the 2025 flash floods in Thanamandi constituency. The information was shared in response to an un-starred question tabled by MLA M. Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, who sought details about damage to residential houses due to flash floods and the delay, if any, in disposal of compensation cases. Replying to the query, the Government stated that 75 residential houses, including both kutcha and pucca structures, were fully or severely damaged, for which a compensation amount of Rs 96.40 lakh has already been paid. In addition, 224 houses suffered partial damage, and compensation amounting to Rs 11.48 lakh was disbursed to the affected households. The House was further informed that one hut damaged in the floods was provided Rs 8,000 as compensation, while 71 damaged cattle sheds were compensated with a total amount of Rs 2.13 lakh. The Government clarified that the damage assessment was conducted by concerned field agencies, followed by scrutiny in district-level SOP meetings. After due verification, the compensation was released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) in accordance with prescribed norms. Overall, a total sum of Rs 1,10,09,500 has been disbursed to affected families in Thanamandi constituency, the Government added.
