Srinagar, Oct 15: In a bid to ensure safe and smooth travel during the upcoming festive season, the Jammu Division of Indian Railways has rolled out comprehensive arrangements across its major stations, officials announced on Wednesday. Following disruptions earlier this year caused by heavy rains and waterlogging, senior Divisional Commercial Manager UchitSinghal outlined key initiatives aimed at improving passenger experience and operational efficiency. Stations including Jammu, PathankotCantt, Pathankot City, Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, and Srinagar are now equipped with continuous train announcements to keep passengers informed about arrivals, departures, and platform changes. Help desks have been set up to assist travellers and address any issues promptly. To manage the anticipated festival rush, temporary holding areas featuring drinking water, toilets, seating, and fans have been established at major stations. Additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel have been deployed to maintain order, especially at entry and exit points. A 24/7 surveillance room is operational to monitor stations and respond swiftly to emergencies. Passenger convenience has been further enhanced with the provision of wheelchairs, battery-operated vehicles, and additional ticket counters, especially to assist differently-abled individuals. The Rail Madad passenger grievance system has been reinforced to ensure quick redressal of complaints. Addressing the restoration of train services disrupted earlier by rains, Singhal stated that phased reinstatement is underway, with the fifth phase already in progress, providing reliable travel options for festival travellers. He urged passengers to plan their journeys, avoid overcrowding, follow railway rules, and refrain from carrying flammable materials. Singhal also praised the dedication of railway personnel in safeguarding passengers. On October 15, during routine ticket checking on Train No. 13151 Sealdah Express, Ticket Inspector Brajraj Kumar found a minor girl traveling without a ticket. Investigation revealed that she had been separated from her family. Singhal said Kumar, coordinating with female TTE staff in Jammu, ensured the girl’s safety and reunited her with her family, while informing the Jammu Control Room and RPF to oversee the process. “This incident highlights the integrity, vigilance, and social responsibility of our staff. It exemplifies the true spirit of Indian Railways connecting people, ensuring their safety, and maintaining public trust,” he said. Singhal said that such efforts reflect the division’s commitment to passenger safety, convenience, and efficient service, particularly during periods of heavy travel. “With the measures in place, we are confident that passengers will have a safe, organised, and comfortable travel experience,” he said, urging travellers to adhere to station advisories, follow instructions from railway personnel, and respect the set timings for train movement.
