Srinagar, Feb 06: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday acknowledged that several key roads in the Hazratbal constituency are facing heavy traffic congestion due to inadequate road width, causing inconvenience to daily commuters. The information was shared in the J&K Assembly in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Hazratbal Salman Sagar. The reply was given by the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, whose charge is with the Deputy Chief Minister. The minister admitted that roads from Zakoora Crossing to Nagbal, Batpora–Shalimar–Gaasu, and Danihama–Harwan witness frequent traffic congestion owing to deficient road width. Responding to a supplementary query on whether residents have been demanding upgradation of these roads, the government said that requests for widening and upgradation have been received from local inhabitants and public representatives, particularly through the JKSAMADHAN grievance portal. Detailing the status of the proposals, the minister said that the road from Zakoora crossing to Gulab Bagh has been identified for upgradation and has been proposed for widening under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme during the current financial year 2025–26. However, formal approval from the competent authority is still awaited. Regarding the Batpora–Shalimar–Gaasu road, the government informed the House that the road was upgraded in 2021 through the laying of a renewal overlay. As for the Danihama–Harwan road, the minister clarified that the stretch is currently in good condition and does not face traffic congestion at present.
