Police register 34 NDPS cases in 2025 in Handwara

Handwara, Dec 31: Handwara Police have registered 34 NDPS cases in 2025 and intensified action against drug trafficking to thwart narcotics networks and their financial support system.
Official data for the year 2025 shows a clear push to choke drug dealers and other anti-national elements by combining arrests, seizures, and property attachment.
As per Handwara Police they have registered 34 NDPS cases during the year 2025. A total of 42 accused were involved in these cases, and all 42 were arrested.
Out of the total cases, 31 have already been disposed of while three cases are still under investigation. Police officials said the figures reflect firm ground-level enforcement and faster follow-up.
Category wise registration shows one case involving commercial quantity, 19 cases involving intermediate quantity, and 14 cases involving small quantity of narcotics, bringing the total to 34 cases.
To prevent repeat offences and disrupt supply chains, five drug peddlers were detained under the PIT NDPS Act.
The recovery made by Handwara Police highlights the scale of drug trafficking in the area. Police seized 591.68 grams of heroin, 560.45 grams of brown sugar, and 1010.36 grams of charas.
They also recovered 5.396 kilograms of poppy straw, 2.340 kilograms of poppy husk, and 1.330 kilograms of poppy capsules. In addition, 10 bottles of IMFL liquor, each of 180 ml, were seized along with cannabis oil.
Other recoveries include cash amounting to Rs 2540 and five vehicles used in illegal activities. Police also recovered one magazine pistol, seven rounds of pistol ammunition, and one country made gun. Identity documents seized during operations include one PAN card, one voter card, and one Aadhaar card, indicating misuse of documents in criminal operations.
Property attachment formed a major part of the crackdown. Handwara Police attached a Swift Dzire vehicle bearing registration number JK09J-5264.
They also attached a double storey residential house, a plinth for a residential house at Saidapora, two shops along with land located near Police Station Handwara, one double storey residential house with an attached storey, and one single storey residential house.
The total value of the attached property is assessed at crores. Police officials said targeting drug money and assets is key to breaking the backbone of drug networks. They added that the drive will continue with zero tolerance to protect youth and restore peace in Handwara.
